When it comes to custom, there is no project too simple or complex for Dallas Rugs. What we enjoy is seeing a client’s vision come to life as they make their space uniquely their own. Whether we’re creating a single hand-knotted wool rug for a family room or furnishing an entire home, we love taking on new projects and new challenges.
One of our larger projects involved a sprawling modern ranch home near Gunter, Texas designed by architect Vernon Berry and Sharif-Munir Custom Homes. In collaboration with Dallas designer Mary Anne Smiley, we created 20 custom hair-on-hide rugs to fill the roughly 20,00 square foot ranch home replete with steel sculptures, Western elements, and pops of color. According to a piece featured in Patron Magazine, the owners share a love of color, so Smiley’s strategy was to start with neutral hues and thread cheerful colors throughout the home.
The rug selections perfectly complement the homeowners’ vision. From neutral to colorful and subtle to bold, the custom-designed hand-stitched hides collectively capture the essence of the home. We created a diverse selection of designs in various shapes and sizes made in several different countries. Multiple round rugs and runners were made, in addition to oversized rectangular rugs and a freeform hide.
Some of the rugs were custom-made to large sizes from existing area rug designs to fit the oversized home. Almost all of our area rugs can be custom made in non-standard shapes and sizes. The lead time for this type of project varies, depending on the size of the rug and the complexity of the project.
Many of the rugs were truly bespoke works of art. We started with Smiley’s renderings, including color palettes and shape and size specifications. From there, we confirm size and color and create strike-offs, which are small corner samples representative of the color and design of the actual rug. Once the strike-off is approved, production begins. As with our custom area rugs, the lead time varies depending on the size and complexity of the design.
At Dallas Rugs, we love custom projects, no matter the scope of the project. If you have a project that falls outside of the box, contact us to see how we can help.
